But there is a problem
Sometimes this algrithm makes you waste your time by keeping you addicted to useless trash that's there on the internet.
How to prevent that? First let's look at how these algorithms makes makes you hooked so that you can unhook yourself.
1. Autoplay - Autoplay is a feature that would let you play another related video once you completed watching another video. This is good in case if you are watching a series of lectures or some other video that comes as part of a series. But the problem is that, it gives you less time to think and make a decision whether to stop watching because before you could think that, it plays another video to you.
2. Shorts - Shorts are short videos that are very short that would finish the video before you find out if it's worth watching or not. Shorts makes it easy to swipe and watch another one which gives you a novel experience every few seconds and novelty tricks us into thinking we are learning new things while we are not actually getting any useful information.
3. Recommendations - Usually if you want to find out about something you would search, but youtube uses the data that they collect from other people who watched a video to perfect their recommendations so that you don't have to use your brain to think of what to search, instead youtube makes that choice for you.
Level 1 - Disable autoplay, disable history
Level 2 - Use UblockOrigin extension to remove shorts
Install an extension like UblockOrigin and use the element picker to select the shorts panel on the home page of the youtube.
Level 3 - Use UblockOrigin extension to remove Recommendations
Select the recommendations sidebar while watching a video using UblockOrigin element picker.
Level 4 - Use UblockOrigin extension to remove Thumbnails
Select the thumbails of the videos using element picker of UblockOrigin.
